Development Bank of Belarus may work in foreign markets, Yermakova says

MINSK, (BelTA) - The National Bank of the Republic of Belarus (BelTA) hopes that the Development Bank will operate in foreign markets promoting the development of the domestic economy in different areas, NBRB chairperson Nadezhda Yermakova told reporters.

Chairman of the Board of the Development Bank of Belarus will be appointed in July-August 2012. When asked about the candidatures, Nadezhda Yermakova noted: “This is not my prerogative. When the candidature is considered, the final decision is taken by the President. In general, this is the prerogative of the Government.”

“The Development Bank has been created to provide lending to public programs, especially those programs that are entitled to preferential lending. This is its main goal. Generally speaking, development banks in different countries are vested with additional big functions. Therefore there is a great hope that the Bank will operate in the international market thus promoting the development of our economy in different areas,” she said.

Nadezhda Yermakova informed that the National Bank put on hold the negotiations with the Central Bank of Iran on a $400 million loan. “Today the Central Bank of Iran is under U.S. sanctions. Therefore, we are unable to do business with them at the moment,” the NBRB head said.
