Russia in talks with Belarus, Kazakhstan over utilization fee on farming machinery
The Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation is currently considering a proposal put forward by the Russian Engineering Union to introduce a utilization fee on imported agricultural machinery, Deputy Minister Georgy Kalamanov said Friday.
“We are currently working hard to introduce utilization fees on cars and I am grateful to the Russian Engineering Union and State Duma deputies for approving the bill in the first reading. As for agricultural machinery, the issue calls for further study,” Kalamanov said.
Kalamanov added that the authorities must also discuss the possible measure with Belarusian and Kazakh governments, the other two members of the Customs Union.
The utilization fee on imported machinery is meant to protect local manufacturers after the country joins the World Trade Organization (WTO).
