Negotiations on Russian-Belarusian auto making company to end soon

Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Medvedev believes that the negotiations on setting up a Belarusian-Russian holding company based on assets of Minsk Automobile Plant (MAZ) and Russian KamAZ will be finished in the near future. Dmitry Medvedev made the relevant statement for mass media after the session of the Union State Council of Ministers on 18 July, BelTA has learned.

“It is rather a complicated negotiation process, which I hope will be completed within rather a short time,” remarked Dmitry Medvedev.

In his words, the project to establish a joint enterprise is in an advanced phase. Views of the sides have been agreed to a large extent. Yet some issues have yet to be clarified. “We will have to couple interests of countries and companies – on one hand, Belarus and on the other hand, Russia and KamAZ, in which a German company is involved,” said Dmitry Medvedev.

In turn, Prime Minister of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich underscored that Belarus and Russia had found mechanisms to secure further advancement in matters concerning the establishment of joint companies. In the near future a Russian government delegation is expected to arrive in Belarus to discuss these matters. The sides will have to materialize the agreements reached at the level of the Belarusian president and the government. “There are certain approaches and details will be worked out,” said the Prime Minister. “It will be real advancement —from talks we will move onto concrete deeds”. According to Mikhail Myasnikovich, the idea is to set up transnational corporations to manufacture modern competitive products in the Customs Union.
