Belarus expects great benefits from CIS free trade zone agreement
Belarus expects great benefits from the CIS free trade zone agreement, which has been ratified by Belarus, Russia and Ukraine, Foreign Minister of Belarus Sergei Martynov told reporters.
“A free trade zone by definition gives more room for development of all forms of cooperation, especially economic and trade, and the agreement, which was signed within the framework of the CIS, is no exception. As the agreement covers the whole territory of the CIS, we naturally expect big results,” Sergei Martynov said.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov added that liberalization of trade regimes is a global trend which is most typical for North America, Europe and other countries. “We would like to facilitate the trade regime as much as possible for the benefit of both our economic ties and consumers,” the official said.
In his words, the Customs Troika shows interest in free trade with non-CIS countries: “We are establishing such contacts with New Zealand and Vietnam.” Besides, the relevant talks are underway with the European Free Trade Association.
