Belarus plans to participate in Khorgos transport-logistics project in Kazakhstan
Belarus plans to use transportation and logistics capabilities of the Khorgos International Center of Boundary Cooperation in Kazakhstan, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Ministry of Transport and Communications.
The issues of the joint use of the Khorgos center, participation of Belarus in the project to develop the Western China-Western Europe transport corridor were discussed during a visit of a delegation of the ministry to the Kazakhstan-Chinese border area.
Representatives of the Ministry of Transport and Communications visited the multifunctional building of the Khorgos checkpoint, FEZ Khorgos – East Gateway, railway station Altynkol, and the new town of Nurkent built especially for the workers of the station Altynkol. Negotiations were held with the Kazakhstan Railways, Khorgos center, Almaty Regional Department of Road Management of the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Kazakhstan. Kazakhstan provided information on the prospects for the development of the Khorgos international center. The Belarusian side was invited to use the capabilities of Khorgos to develop the transport corridor Western China -Western Europe.
The parties discussed cooperation in the area of joint use of the single transport and logistic hub for traffic between Kazakhstan and Belarus within the framework of the Customs Union. They expressed confidence that the project will become a transit bridge between Asia and Europe, connecting transport and logistic hub Khorgos with terminals of Brest.
Khorgos is one of the largest joint projects implemented at the initiative of the heads of China and Kazakhstan. The project aims to facilitate trade, ramp up transit potential of the transcontinental corridor Western China - Western Europe. Khorgos is unmatched in the world and is a breakthrough in non-oil-and-gas sector of the economy. It is planned that Khorgos will be the main stronghold of the new Euro-Asian bridge for expanding international trade.
