Belarus to invest $722m in glass industry development

Belarus has expanded funding for its glass industry development programme 3.5 times to Br6.084 trillion ($722 million), according to ordinance #360 of August 14, 2012 signed by President Alexander Lukashenko.

The ordinance adds a few more projects to the programme, including a $308.9m project to build a calcined soda factory in Gomel. Originally, Austria’s АTEC GmbH was supposed to implement the soda project, however the Austrian company is no longer on the list of programme participants. As previously reported, the Export-Import Bank of China agreed a loan to the tune of $186.5 million to assist Belarus in constructing a calcined soda factory in 2010–2015 with the annual capacity of 300,000 tonnes.

The updated programme includes a few more glass projects to be implemented by Grodno Glass Factory Neman and OAO Gomelsteklo.
