Croatia's unemployment not as bad as media reports, DZS says

Croatian Bureau of Statistics (DZS) has reacted to recent media reports about Croatia’s devastating unemployment rate by listing several other countries that are even worse off. The Croatian media has quoted the online publication Business insider, which lists Croatia as a country with the second-highest unemployment rate in the world (18.8 per cent) according to the International Labour Organization’s (ILO) report. According to the article, worse off is only South Africa, with a 25.3 per cent unemployment rate. But DZS has published data derived from its labour force survey, which shows that in the third quarter of 2010, Croatia’s unemployment was 11.5 per cent. According to Eurostat information, unemployment rates in several other European countries were even worse, the portal Index writes. Among these states are Estonia (15.5 per cent), Ireland (13.9 per cent), Greece (Greece (12.4 per cent), Spain (19.8 per cent), Latvia (18 per cent), Lithuania (17. 8 per cent), Slovakia (14.1 per cent), etc.
