Croatian GDP fell 1.4 per cent last year
Croatian GDP fell 1.4 per cent last year compared to 2009, the first estimates of the Central Bureau of Statistics (DZS) show.
The GDP dropped 0.7 per cent in the last quarter of 2010 when compared with the same period the previous year, after registering a slight growth of 0.2 per cent in the third quarter.
The GDP fell 2.5 per cent in both the first and the second quarter, compared to the same periods in 2009.
The 2009 GDP fell by 5.8 per cent compared to 2008.
Economic analysts were expecting a GDP drop of some 1.5 per cent for last year, the portal Business writes. This year’s expectations are those of growth of approximately 1.5 per cent.
In their January edition of Croatian Economic Outlook Quarterly, an analyst of the Zagreb-based Institute of Economics Institute estimated that the growth this year will be slower than expected and will hover around 1.3 per cent. The risks for recovery are growing unemployment and fiscal imbalance, the daily writes.
