Spanish exports increase

There is good news for Spanish exports of fruits and vegetables after they grew in volume and value.

FEPEX announced that exports in February rose 5% in volume and 7% in value compared to 2011. Exports reached 1,031,484 tons and 942.3 million euros.

These figures are the result of increases in Germany (5%), France (3%), the UK (2%) and the Netherlands (2%). These four countries accounted for 64% of total Spanish exports.

Exports to other countries were more volatile, falling in Poland (-14%) and up in Italy (9%). Apart from the European Union, Russia is the leading destination with 27,975 tons, up 71% over the previous year.
