Belarus’ Russia-bound car exports at $1.25 bn in 2011
MINSK, PRIME-TASS. Belarus exported to the Russian Federation around 102,000 vehicles worth $1.25 billion, the Customs Committee said in a preliminary report.
Belarus’ Russia-bound vehicle exports were facilitated by the emergency of Customs Union (Belarus, Russia, Kazakhstan). Russian and Kazakh customers are interested in purchasing a car in Belarus because of the difference in VAT calculation. In Belarus they charge VAT from the difference in the purchasing and selling price of cars, while in Russia they charge it from the entire value of the car.
Moreover, in early 2011 Russians could enjoy duty-free exports of Euro-4 compliant vehicles. End
Russian and Kazakh consumers were interested in buying cars from Belarus as they benefitted from a tax privilege, which was withdrawn in 2012.
Belarus’ passenger cars imports rose 40% to 284,100 vehicles in 2011.
