In 2008 Grodno region export totaled 1564 mln US dollars having increased by 10.9 per cent if compared with the previous year (153.2 mln US dollars). Chemical products account for the major part of the region’s export, rubber resin – 30.8 per cent of the export or 482 mln US dollars. Foodstuffs and materials for food industry also account for quite a considerable share (22.4 per cent or 350.5 mln US dollars).

Following the results of the first half-year of 2009, service exports in terms of value in actual prices decreased 17.2%, whereas imports grew 21.3% as compared to the first half-year of 2008. Balance of external trade showed a surplus having amounted to 5 mln. USD.

Moldavia is an important trade partner of the Republic of Belarus, which ranks the fourth place by the volume of bilateral trade among the CIS countries. The Belarusian export items to Moldavia are as follows: oil products, tractors, ceramic tile, woodworking and furniture products, bitumen, refrigerators and freezers, gas and electric fryers, ethylene polymers, and medical agents.

The estimation of real situation in industrial, financial, investment, and foreign trade activity of free economic zones of the Republic of Belarus has shown, that the contribution of FEZ's to macroeconomic indicators of the republic consistently increases. So, if in 2000 the volume of production made in FEZ's occupied 0,75% of total amount of production of the industry, in 2006 this figure made already 3,7 %.

In 2007 in the Gomel region the production of consumer goods increased by 4% in comparison with 2006 (in monetary terms – 2,1 bln. Rbl.). The manufacture of whole-milk products in 2007 rose by 15 %, fat cheeses - by 5 %, ice cream - by 7 %, meal - by 18 %, meat - by 1 %, margarine - by 30 %. In the light industry bed-clothes manufacture increased by 9 %, cotton fabrics - by 2 %, knitted nap cloth by 3%, footwear – by 1 %. The manufacture of fruit wines increased by 12 %, beer - by 10 %, grape wines - by 210 %, vodka and liquor products - by 130 %.
