According to data by Novgorod Oblast Local Agency of Federal State Statistics Service as of January 1, 2010 217 enterprises and institutions in Novgorod oblast dealt with food production (including beverages and tobacco), that is by 10 enterprises up compared to figure as of January 1, 2009 (according to official registration data). The number of enterprises and institutions concerned with the given type of economic activity made up 1.4% of the total number of the oblast enterprises.

Industrial production index of 2009 totaled 81% compared to 2008 (production index for mining operations made up 80.9%, for manufacturing activities - 79.4%, for electric power, gas and water production and distribution - 94.5%).

For the period of January-July, 2009, retail trade turnover amounted to 51389.2 mln. Russian roubles (RUB) (see Table 1). 89% of the turnover was formed by trading organisations and self-employed entrepreneurs operating outside the market, the share of retail markets and fairs made nearly 10.4% (in January-July, 2008 – 86.3% and 13.7% respectively).
